Italy 2015! ♥

My dad came to visit me, so we took a short Ryanair flight to see our family in Italy!

My grandmother lives here with A LOT of other family members. My Nonnina used to speak English but she’s forgotten a lot of it since moving back to Italy when I was a baby.

I love Italy. I truly do.

Rome is crazy. There is so much hustle and bustle. It is full of adventure, tourist attractions, and coffee shops. It’s not my favorite part though.

My family live about an hour outside Rome in a small town located in the hills. The drive to get there is winding and beautiful.

The town is small, and everyone knows each other. Most of the houses are old stone buildings that are connected to each other. When you walk inside you can tell that the people live simply. The streets are barely wide enough for a small car to fit through and you can see farmland in the valley for miles.

The town has the necessities, but you’ll have to travel to neighboring cities if you’re looking for anything fancy or out of the ordinary. One of these neighboring cities is where Aubrey and I tried our first authentic gelato. Nothing compares to eating Italian ice cream in Italy. Maybe it’s a cliché, but it’s one that I am happy to participate in. We had Italian ice cream in a small city in Italy!

We had made from scratch meals almost every night.
We sat around the table with family and ate until we could not move. Then we ate some more!

I don’t speak a lick of Italian, but I had never felt more at home. I felt so welcomed and so well fed. Lols.

Italy has my family so naturally it has my heart.

If you find yourself in Italy, stray away from the beaten path! Find yourself a small town and some wonderful small-town locals. You will not be disappointed
