The $100 Deal I Almost Didn’t Stop For
Let me tell you about the hutch.
And the desk.
And the striped chair I absolutely did not think would work.
I got all three for $100.
One hundred dollars.
The hutch is this big, dark, beautiful piece that instantly made the room feel grounded. (& Added a ton of much-needed storage!) The desk fits perfectly in the corner like it was meant to be there.
And the chair…
Listen. When I saw the striped chair, I said, "Nope." It’s bold. It’s not something I would have picked out online after overthinking it for three weeks. But my daughter sat in it and fell in love. It was so comfortable. We still left the store without it.
But when I went back a couple of weeks later, it was still there (now less than $15), along with the hutch and the desk of my dreams.
I love all of it. There is so much character in this room now. It feels collected instead of coordinated. And every time I walk past it, I’m glad I trusted the vibe instead of overanalyzing.
The Free Treasure Hunt
At one point, a local secondhand store was closing and let the public come clean it out.
The globe? Free.
Some of the smaller décor? Free.
Picture frames? Free.
I felt like I was on a home décor scavenger hunt. There’s something deeply satisfying about saving beautiful things from being tossed and giving them a new spot in your home.
That globe has this perfectly aged patina that I could never recreate if I tried. And it cost me nothing but the effort of showing up.
The Thrift Store Dog Portraits (Because Obviously)
The dog portraits on the wall might be my favorite part of the whole room.
They look like aristocrats. Like they’ve commanded ships. Like they have strong opinions about tea.
Both of them came from a thrift store, and they make me smile every single day. Dopamine decor at its finest.
There is something wildly satisfying about hanging dramatic vintage dog art in your dining room and acting like that’s completely normal behavior.
The Chicken Plot Twist
Now let’s talk about the chickens.
Anything in the room with a chicken on it?
Dollar General.
I’m serious.
The mug. The little chicken details. There's a chicken pillow. If it has poultry on it, there’s a good chance it came from a very unglamorous aisle run.
Secondhand decorating doesn’t mean everything has to be vintage or expensive-looking. It just means you mix what you love. High-end thrifted hutch? Yes. Dramatic vintage dog art? Absolutely. Discount chicken mug? Also yes.
There are no rules here! If it makes us happy, it's in the house.
Nothing in this room came as a matching set. It came from different places, different stores, different days when I almost didn’t stop.
And somehow, that makes it feel more like us. More like home. Not curated. Not staged. Collected.
I'm so excited to make this house feel like home. I'm so happy to finally be in our forever home, too. Here's to growing old with all the coolest trinkets! Because the goal has always been to have the coolest estate sale after I'm gone.
